I'm having speech trouble and it's getting embarrasing!

Can I suggest a book for all of you to check out? It's called Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats. It talks about returning to a diet like that of our ancestors, and it explains how the body can react to all the effects of the various chemicals and processes our foods are exposed to and what it does to us - but more importantly it gives you permission to eat normally, properly, and why you should - and gives great recipes to follow in the process. The whole book is fascinating, it's not just a cookbook, each page has information. I'm about halfway through it, and I'm planning on starting work on our diets here (which really aren't that bad, but improvements can always be made!).

My sister has MS, she's going to be checking into this too, if what I make around here is too much for us to eat, I'll share it with her. She's already noticed how much changes in her diet help her with flares, etc.

Thanks Reinbeau. We're planning a trip to the city soon. I'll definitely look for it at the bookstore.

After reading through this thread earlier yesterday I made perhaps one of my more classic slips of the tongue yesterday evening. I walked downstairs and noticed that my husband had hooked up the speakers we had purchased last weekend, and rather than saying the intended “Ah, you got the speakers hooked up.” Instead, what came out was…
“Ah, you got the hookers speakin’ up.”

I think it’s safe to say we’ll forever be referring to those particular speakers as the hookers!

(Gritsar, don’t mean to make light of your worries, I do hope it turns out to be nothing serious)

I have got to read this.
I'm allergic to many things, including pollen, mold, dander, latex, all nuts (coconut, too), and I have allergic reactions to bananas, melons (watermelon, too), carrots, and tomatoes, despite testing negative for allergies to them.
With allergies, asthma, migraines, hypothryroidism, and the thing with a sugar problem (not diabetes) that I can't for the life of me remember the name of right now... ANYWAYS, I've often wondered if I'm causing all of these to some extent by what I eat or DON'T eat.
The irony is that I can't do the health-food store, all natural thing, because many, many items cause allergic reactions. Chamomile comes to mind. And many I don't know about.

Anyone else?

My wife had issues with migranes, was lactose-intolerant, thought she had food allergies, and had all sorts of other nagging ailments. Turned out that she's celiac, and can't have any wheat gluten. When she cut that out of her diet, all of her other symtoms went away.

A doctor (internal medicine specialist) she eventually found was a firm believer that many chronic problems were caused by people's diet ... either eating the wrong things, or eating things not suited you the particular individual.

Several years later, my uncle discovered he had celiac, after talking with my wife, comparing symptoms, and getting tested. In his case, this was after years of medical consultation, and a gall bladder removal.

My brother developed chronic stomach problems, spent a year trying different doctors, and eventually found out that he can't tolerate high fructose corn syrup ... which is in just about every processed food out there.

So ... yeah, what you eat can matter a lot.
