I just did but I don't receive notifications about the people I follow.
I follow no one so have no idea what kind of notifications you should expect. I have almost all forms of alerts also turned off.
Right now there is probably no activity from Kiki since it is past her bedtime.

I believe that you need to click on your avatar in the header and then click on News feed to get information about those you follow.
