Don't worry, I'll almost feel your pain. I'll be driving from Oregon to Washington with a car full starts to plant an area about half yours in one weekend... load the car, drive 5 hours, fence it, till it, dig it, sleep, plant it, water it, dirve 5 hours back here rain, shine, thunder or lightning, to hope that they take and make it.

PS: how are your chicks doing? All six are doing very well, cannot believe how big they are now. Snoopy made a full recovery. She is only on one steroid pill every other day!

I put out that permanent asparagus bed about ten years ago; that's why its row is not numbered. It's about 66 feet long and three feet wide. It feeds us, the neighbors, friends, and all our relatives. As long as you put LOTS of manure under where you're going to plant it the first year, the bed will last forever. I started off with a truck load of buried horse manure. I try to replenish the soil with leaf mold, additives, and miscellaneous nutrients as much as I can.
