It has been three weeks since I got the call from the post office. In that time, as you all already know, my 8 chicks have gone from puffballs to dinosaurs. I have watched, mesmerized and enchanted, as they eat and poop and sprout strange growths from their bodies. I've lost one in a long, slow, inexplicable decline (RIP Lulu). I'm paranoid that my SS is a rooster (those feet!). I wonder: am I designing enough ventilation into the coop? Is peat moss or organic top soil better for dust bathing? Why won't Rosie use the nipple drinkers?!? Every google search leads to backyardchickens.com. I love the tone and nature of the threads, the wisdom of the masses. I have read all of the usual books, which are wonderful. But they can only ever be one person's perspective. This is a community and I appreciate the differing perspectives. So I figured I would join and introduce myself before I needed to send an SOS. Thanks in advance!
