Im In Trouble

We had a crazy neighbor (who moved now...thank goodness) who used to scream at me over the fence because we feed the WILD DUCKS in our yard....we LIVE ON A CREEK. And she would complain that because we fed the wild ducks, they would fly over her yard and land on her house and poop on her roof. People are CRAZY. If they don't like you, as im sure many people in a gaited community, who are probably clueless about urban farming etc. WOULD dislike that, I suggest, if you want to keep ducks...to get the heck OUT of a gaited community.

You can't pick your neighbors, and if you live in a place like THAT, you are undoubtedly going to get folks thhat don't want ducks in their yard. Sorry, but that's the truth.

The thing that was nuts about MY neighbor, is that we live in a watershed, with roosters, chickens, horses, ducks, sheep, foxes, coyotes, and you name it, runniing around all over and she had no right to complain living in an area like this.

This. There are just some people in those communities who will always think you're the Beverly Hillbillies weather you have a duck, a rabbit, a chicken, or if you have tomatoes stakes in your front yard. All they (think) they know is that you are driving down property values every waking minute and your animals are making a mess.

I agree with this 100%. They arent pit bulls attacking their children or hogs digging up their azaleas, they are a few harmless ducks. To make a big stink over this shows your neighbor is a self absorbed jerk. I wish you luck as well, but can't say I'm surprised... people build gates around their communities for not very good reasons just in my opinion.

There are "commmunities" that don't allow you to have your garage door open for longer than the time it takes to pull in/ out because the neighbors don't want to see the content of you garage...or that it makes the neighborhood look bad. And they don't let you paint your house a certain color. There are places where it is ILLEGAL to grow vegetables in you front yard. Why would anyone be suprised about the actions of this person? OF COURSE they will complain about ducks in their yard. DUCK POO is GROSS! I know! I have it all over my yard. The difference is I don't care all that much if I step in it. I'm sure a non duck person would be pretty miffed stepping in a big ol pile of fresh duck crap....especially if they have their new paiir of $300 shoes on.

Thank you all for the replies! We hope to move in the Spring of '12. Treasutre Lake, where we live in DuBois,PA, has the stigma of wealth & old farts. My section is not scene by many people who live at T.L. This is my fault!! Our boys Affy & Daffy haven't tresspassed in over a year & the next door neidhbors are not snooty-type people!! They just are weird & that has contributed to their hate for us!!! They are constantly coming out on their back porch to smoke & just watch us. I'm ready to say take a picture it will last longer!!!!!

Friday the property-control guy called my husband back & said that if they had not filed a complaint there would be no time limit on getting rid of them, but because they would not exist on paper. I'm so dumb to let them out in the rain!!! He told Tony to keep them away from the neighbors yard & take our time finding a good home for them. That he has a pot bellied pig - pet that other people complained about & many more pressing issues that have nothing to do with pets. So in the mean time I'm composing a "case" of Pekin-pet ducks to support keeping them, so please send any & all links to articles etc.

I had to giggle about the reply...why were they egging the neighbors!!! Too funny!!! I hope to post their photos soon, but I'm so 80's & not tech/computer savy!!!

I always joke with my husband & friends and say that I want to make a sign for our front yard that reads "FIRST CLASS, WHITE TRASH & NO CASH"

Neighbors don't have a garden. They just used chicken wire & stakes to mark their property line after the ducks tresspassed. It is better then the logs they had laid there previously!!

Wow, what pigs!!

I'm so lucky with my neighbours, they adore my ducks, always come round to see them and always laughing when my female does her REALLY loud quacks when she wants something (you can hear her from up the road:/ )

Really hope you get to keep them

I don't think this is really helping anything to be getting emotional. If I were you I would either go and talk to him calmly and see how you can resolve the issue without a brawl. Even if that means swallowing your pride and apologizing for something rediculous. If your dog or cat goes in someone's yard where I live they'll just shoot them. So consider yourself lucky that anyone is bothering to speak to you about it. Accident or not it's still your animal and you have to take responsibility for them. I'd talk to your neighbor and give him reasons for why ducks improve the enviornment and are causing no harm. If he disagrees talk to someone who has more authority about keeping them. If you don't know the laws about ducks where you live that is... not good. If they are livestock then they will make you get rid of them and there isn't a thing you can do about it. Unfortunatly not knowing the laws about your animals give other people opertunity to really screw you over. I'm sorry that it's happening to you and I hope that you can keep them. I would compile a case for yourself about why ducks are good to keep and have that ready if they want to make you get rid of them. You NEED to research your laws though.

To be honest, and I don't intend to bash anyone, if your neighbors aren't friendly and you are allowed to do so, I'd sure get up some sort of reasonably attractive privacy fence! Keep the ducks in, keep the nosy neighbors from staring at you, the best of both! If we have pets or livestock, it is our responsibility to keep them at home and not bothering others. Sure, sometimes things happen, but if you don't have a fenced yard, that's rather inviting trouble no matter where you live.

Actually, duck poop is very stinky and messy and it comes in LARGE quantities especially with a duck like the Pekin. The OP's nieghbour is living in an expensive community that he probably paid a lot of money to live in. He shouldn't have to be dealing with the OP's ducks crapping on his lawn.
