Im In Trouble

I look at it like this. Certain communities have certain restrictions that I am sure u know about when moving in. U agree to it, so abide by it now. Most of those communities pay lots for up keep and maintenance etc. I can understand their point of not wanting anything messing it up.

You know, I think that just SUCKS.

I had a neighbor like that until I moved to my current place a year ago. I don't know what crawled up his butt and died, but he was determined to loathe me and my critters.

The side of the street I lived on was unincorporated XXXX county, and the other side, where he lived, was the City. And having loose livestock in the City was against the law. My turkeys went for a stroll and were exploring his driveway, and he called Animal Control. I got a warning, the turkeys got a fence. Then this guy stood in his front yard with a CAMERA whenever my geese would wander into the front yard. Waiting for them to enter the city and break the law, I guess.

I moved to a place where the other side of the street is not part of a city AND the neighbors there are critter-friendly.

If I ruled the world, you could have barnyard critters anywhere, as long as the folks who didn't want them anywhere near them were respected. I would chuckle if someone ducks came in my yard. I mean seriously, DUCKS?

Sigh, I realize and understand the whole mess. I just hate to think of you having to let go of your "kids" because of some old stuffy tattle teller.

I agree with this 100%. They arent pit bulls attacking their children or hogs digging up their azaleas, they are a few harmless ducks. To make a big stink over this shows your neighbor is a self absorbed jerk. I wish you luck as well, but can't say I'm surprised... people build gates around their communities for not very good reasons just in my opinion.

Actually, duck poop is very stinky and messy and it comes in LARGE quantities especially with a duck like the Pekin. The OP's nieghbour is living in an expensive community that he probably paid a lot of money to live in. He shouldn't have to be dealing with the OP's ducks crapping on his lawn.

Yes, they poop....yes it's stinky sometimes...how long were the ACTUALLY over there...they poop like 4-5 times an hour...there can't have been that much poop in such a small time span. Not to mention poop is a FERTILIZER. So really, she's helping them save money on lawn care.

I think it's ridiculous for someone to get so bent out of shape over such a small incident. It happened once in a YEAR...not every month....week...or day. Accidents happen...and people are so unreasonable....until the day it happens to them. I think people forget to put themselves in others shoes before reacting. It's a sad sad world we live in when we cannot understand and work out problems the right way.

Fertilizer in the form of a stinky, gooie mess...

Yea, I'm sorry. I think too many people are too uptight....but then again...you DO live in a gated community, and you DID move there knowing that. So, being said, unfortunately, you will eiither need to get riid of yer ducks, or move. That's why ii would NEVER willfully live in a community like that. Even liviing in an unincorporated "farm" area, I had horrible neighbors thag called the county on my coop, and if we hadn't moved it, we would have gotten in trouble. Laws, uunfortunately, are laws, and no matter how unreasonable or ridiculous they may be, we have to abide by them or suffer the consequences.

Thank goodness I was able to move my coop 50 feet and be in compliance. Then I got a rooster and 15 more chickens, just to stick it to the b-word. They sold their house and moved and now I have lovely neighhbors who like my birds....and don't complain about sheeeeeoooot.

i have heard that it is illegal to keep them outside, but to prove they are pets you keep them inside. maybe you could set up a fake indoor area for them in case someone comes over to check it out. thats all i got, because i was going to do the same thing if someone questioned me lol. i hope it works

Thanks for all the opininions, information, ideas, and support!!! We had the boyz inside our garage 2 winters ago due to severe weather. Now we are set up much better for the winters. I will make a make shift set-up incase of inspections by the "board". Also, I will copose a folder of how they are domestic/pets and not your average farm/livestock. I'm so thankful the property control guy is in no hurry. I'm a fool!!! I'd like to find out who owns the Pig & talk with them too!
Many Thanks,
Char:cool:

You guys are missing the point. These are her birds, not his. He has every right to not want them in his yard. Ducks do make messes; they dig in wet soil, they eat baby plants..... they poop.

How about you put up a fence that keeps them into your yard? I know it is not fun, but if you want to keep the ducks you need to keep your neighbor happy.

I'd be sick if I had to give up mine....do whatever you need to do to make that neighbor happy! Bake him cupcakes with duck eggs in it!

Good Luck

Good Luck

Very true he has the right to not want them in his yard....but as I said previously....accidents DO happen. I'm sure he wouldn't want her complaining to the home owners association the first time he "stepped out of line" and left the garbage can out by the road too long and an animal broke into it or something silly. All I'm saying is it doesn't sound like the ducks escaped long enough to cause serious damage...nor does it happen frequently. He could have just asked her to fix or pay for whatever damage they caused (I'm sure it was minuscule) or worked something else out before running to the "authorities". It's just not neighborly.
