Not YET! But I bought my incubator, and its all set! Just waiting for eggs! I just HAD to try it. My fiance was all about trying it out to, as he used to hatch eggs as a little kid for school in Vermont! (Farm Country!). He moves 25 mins from Boston, meets me, and all I wanna do is go live on a farm. Go figure! Anywaysss.. We got the Still Air Little Giant Incubator. No egg turner though, is that super neccessary?? We will be starting as soon as we get the eggs, let them set, and go from there! Good luck everyone!!

I'll be putting silkie eggs in my new incubator hopefully today...I'm a first timer as well.

I was told it wasn't necessary if you had a sure fire way to remember how often to turn the eggs and do it regularly - Regularly being KEY!
With SO many things going on, I needed something to be done for me! LOL!
I grew up Wanting to be on a farm... Have chickens - looking into other animals at some point! LOL!

I am also incubatingfor the first time and have read this post with great interest and a fair amount of trepidation! The instructions on my incubator said to only turn twice a day, and to put the water in and as long as it was topped up a couple of times a week it would be fine. Now I read to turn 3 times a day - and the reason for it makes a lot of sense to me, and humidity is very important. The eggs have been in there for a week, so have I messed it up? I only put 7 in there, 6 big brown Barnevellder eggs, and one little Belgian bantam egg(she only lays one a week - she's so cute

)as a test, but now that they are there I feel all maternal towards them, and really want them to hatch!
Also, when is the first day that I can candle the eggs? I have my brand new candler sitting there and I'm just dying to use it.
Good luck to all of us I say!

I am going to candle mine on the 7th day, and then again on the 14th to make sure they're still growing.

Some people say turn them 3 times a day, others say 5 times. I wonder if mother hens know this? It has been proven that chickens can count, maybe they carefully turn their eggs 180 degrees 3 times a day. HA!! NOT !

By the way, WELCOME TO THE FIRST MONTH OF YOUR LIFELONG ADDICTION!
Muuuuuuoooooooohhhhhhhhhaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!
