Questions:
Are Peacocks noisy?
Can I get any age male for under $40?
Will the male be fine by itself, or does he need a peahen?
If the conditions are right, where is the best place to buy one near houston texas?

An adult male Peacock starts at $150.
They can be extremely loud.
A male will roam looking for a Peahen and would need a suitable flight pen to keep from that.

They scream. Literally, sound like someone is in danger.

They're way more expensive than 40, heck most batteries are at least 59 if you buy a bunch of babies and everyone wants the males, which drives the price more

They really like to roam. You need a big rum to keep them put, even with a female. They need at least aother male, you can't keep one alone

Yes, that is one of the most endearing aspects of having peacocks is the sounds they make especially during the breeding season, the rest of the year they don't make much sound at all.

If you look in the local Craigslist you should find some very cheap India Blue chicks for about that amount.

They do like company but it depends on the bird, some will live peacefully with chickens and others will wander off looking for love. Two cocks without a hen usually are fine without other birds around.

By your questions, I assume you are not prepared for getting peafowl yet. Go to the top of the Peafowl page and look for the Stickies Topics and start reading all you can about housing, feed, genetics, deworming, medicating, etc. to get a better understanding of what you are getting into.
