I put two hens in with my rooster to breed, and they want absolutely nothing to do with him. He struts around and does the little dance around them, but they hate his guts. He tries to breed, and they run. So what do I do now?

Give'em time, eventually they'll submit to him.

How long has he been in there with them ? Maybe they just need some time to "get to know him"

Have you checked your eggs to see if they are fertile ? He might be mating them you just dont see it.

Check this post out for more info and pics on fertile eggs..... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=16008

Maybe they just need more time. How long have they been together? If it's only been a wk or so, no worries, they'll be getting comfy before too much longer. If that doesn't work, try flowers, dinner & a movie! [IMG] Gotta love our humor here at this forum...[IMG].

Well, some boys just have limited social skills... He's not a rocket scientist by any chance is he? Have you noticed a little chicken pocket protector on his breast? That'd be a big clue. Is he still living with his mama? That's another hint, let me tell you!

He's just figuring it all out and the girly click still thinks he has cooties. It'll all work out eventually.

Probably needs some time to woo the ladies with goodies.

And what's wrong with rocket scientists and pocket protectors? [IMG]

Get somemeal worms and see if he picks them up or clucks to them to tell them about the treats. If he eats them and does not offer them to the hens he's not going to get the job done.
