I'm Lazy - Low maintenance ideas

Now that you've explained yourself the purpose of your post has turned in a different direction. You aren't looking for lazy ways of doing things but efficent ways. I'm all for that. Most of us hurt in our older years so we all need more efficent ways of working. No muscling things around anymore like we used to.

You've got a good idea already of what's needed. Sounds like you have in pretty much figured out. I do like the plate idea, and dog leash. Very inovative way of putting inexpensive things to good use.

I can't say enough about sand in the run. We had a muddy mess until I put down a ton of sand.

Olive oil would be expensive if I didn't already have some that smelled just enough off that I didn't want to cook with it, lol. In winter, you put oil/ vaseline on combs and wattles to prevent frostbite in really cold weather. I haven't had a problem with mites yet - that I know of - but sometimes their legs look a little ragged, so I oil them up just in case. They seem to like it

I figure if it is mites, it will suffocate them, if it's scrapes, it will help heal, if it's dry skin, it will help too, so what can it hurt?

Sand is a great idea! Our property had a serious flooding problem that made it practically impossible to get to the coop w/o waders in spring until we had a load of "fill dirt" (which turned out to be red sand) delivered. It was supposed to cover a culvert, but washed away and filled the ditch, but that turned out well! Now we can walk across year round - even when there is water running over it, we don't get muddy, and the poultry LOVE pecking in it!

And yeah, Ole Rooster, I'm always looking at Dollar Tree and thrift store items trying to figure out how something can be used for my chickens! My chickens would only eat the seeds out of our cucumbers unless I pureed them, so I spent all summer looking for a cheap blender or food processor at the junk shops. When your getting 2-3 5gal. buckets a day, one lil stick blender just can't handle it!
