I'm Lost?

Most chickens don't worry about the weather. Mine go in and out of the coop during all types of weather. They hesitate in snow and Ice but they will still venture outside. As long as they have a place to get in out of the weather they should be fine.

Anyway...does anyone elses chickens stand right out in the rain? Some of mine just keep peckin like nothings wrong.
Mine are oblivious to rain. They have a very nice covered run but once it's opened they only for back in for a peck of food or drink of water. It freaks me out when they are molting and soking we all day but they don't seen to suffer any ill effects.

As for winter time laying: We have eight hens, four are molting two are finished molting and two are 7 moths old. All four of the hens that are not molting are laying (there eggs are different colors) and currently get about 5-6 eggs a week.

I agree that the daylight being short does hurt egg production.I have lights on timers and I think that due to the fact that they have to stay in the coop until the sun comes up with nothing much to do has hurt me.My egg production is real low and I feel that some of it is due to them helping themselves to my eggs. When I gather them in the morning I do find some of them are good and warm.I have the light to come on in the morning only.I feel that if I split it with half in the morning and half in the evening, when the lights go out they won't be able to find their nest boxes. This does give them a considerable amount off time to get in trouble.
