Hi all,

I'm fairly new to this board but enjoy it immensely. I have had my half a dozen chickens living in my converted well house for the past year. We are moving soon and the new house has nothing to work with, not even an old outbuilding as a temprary solution while I build their new palace from scratch. Does anyone have any ideas what would be a good temporary solution for my girls to live in and lay while I build their new home? Hopefully it won't take me more than two weeks. My entire backyard is fenced (one acre).

Thanks in advance.

What about buying enough bales of straw to make a two-bale-high 'hut' topped with weighted down tarp-over-plywood? Fence the whole thing with t-posts and some 1x2 or 2x4 wire mesh fencing to make a run and keep out predators (hopefully you will not have *serious* predators).

Or, spend an afternoon knocking together an A frame using 2 sheets of plywood and 2x2 or 2x4 scraps; hardware-cloth the ends, with one end hardware-clothed over a triangular frame so it can be used as a door for you to go in and out.

Unless you could just find somewhere else to keep them for a little while (they couldn't stay where they are? have you asked?)

Good luck,

Pat

Our new house is going to be in Graham, WA (an hour south of Seattle). It's not too cold but it is very wet.

Unfortunately we cannot keep the chickens where they are at our old house after we move.

There is a garage in the new place but I'd rather not use that as who knows what the chickens will get into in there.

I'm not too concerned about predators as it's fenced and the neighbors I spoke with said they never see raccoons.

I can't buy a shed at the store as that would be blasphemy to my inner-building needs.
