I'm moving to Idaho...and taking my 12 hens with me..

I bought 2 1/2 acres out in the country right on the Snake River where I plan to build my house, workshop, raise a huge garden and spoil my chickens even more than they are now. Trouble is, I need to buy a small run down house close by to live in while I build my big house and that will be in a nearby small town like Marsing, Homedale, or larger towns like Caldwell or Nampa.

So, are there any chicken lovers here from that part of Idaho who can tell me if Idahoans are "chicken friendly" and will let me keep 12 hens (no crowing roosters) in a fenced backyard in any of these towns? With Idaho being a more rural agricultural state, hope they are more lenient. I am having a real estate agent in Boise look for the properties but figured I would check here first before calling City Hall at all these towns. Guess it shows how much I love my peeps that they determine where I will be living!!

Have family in Coeur D'Alene Idaho. Check with your local animal care people in Marsing, Homedale, Caldwell , Nampa.

I would think that if you have acreage you should be okay. These places are quite small. Chances are others have them too.

My sister has chickens in Caldwell. She had a rooster too, but got rid of it to keep peace with the guy next door.
She also has a horse in her backyard, so fairly animal friendly I would guess.

Thanks for the info. Looks like Caldwell will be my new temporary home but will check out the small towns closer to Marsing where my river property is. There are actually a couple of good deals on acreage close to Caldwell and Parma. May just buy the land and a cheap mobile home to move on it for the year it will take to build my real house (along with luxury coop for my chickens) I have already been telling them of all the fresh fish they will be eating once we make the move.

I moved to Idaho three weeks ago. Brought 10 chickens, a St Bernard, an Aussie, a Cocker Spaniel and a doxie, plus a cat...it was quite an experience

I have 15 acres in Sandpoint, have never checked the rules, but have met all the neighbors and they want eggs! I hope you have a similar experience

No idea about the local ordinances, everything is very relaxed and friendly here

I live on a 1/3 acre in a subdivision in Nampa and i have six chickies. My neighbors havnt complained yet and one of them is the homeowners pres We just checked our ccr's and we are not alowed to have poultry

I was looking for temp homes in Nampa but when the above post thread showed Nampa allowing only 3 chickens and Caldwell 10, decided for Caldwell. I will just keep the extra 2 under the bed in case the City Chicken inspector shows up. I will be able to have my full 12 ladies out in the open when the house on the river is built!!
