Hello everyone welcome to my introduction, I hope you enjoy it. my wife and I both grew up in the city of Philadelphia then decided later in life to move to a random town in a rural area in a random state where we have been happily for 6 years now. We like to tell the locals when they ask that it is where we ran out of gas and decided to stay. So now here we are in north west tn. 2.5 hrs away from the closest big city. We have started a small farm that sells fresh produce through means of a CSA and local farmers markets. I am now the Manager of one of the main markets I sell at and we have been talking about getting chickens for a few years. Well turns out A guy the next town over had some hens and a coop that he wanted to sell, he got them for his kid but the kid does not take care of them so they found there way home with me. 4 hens, 2- 9 months old and 2-1.5 years old. 3 are australorp and 1 is a RoadIslandRed. The RIR and one of the aussies are the younger ones so far its been 5 days and we have gotten 6 eggs. It seems the RIR has not laid yet but she also seems stressed out with the way the others pick on her and she is kinda new to the flock but anyhoo I know only what I have read about chickens and it seemed like a good idea to just go with hens that are all grown up and laying already rather than trying to just hop right in and raise chicks.
