im new to backyard chicken live in anchorage alaska it has been getting down in the 30th at night here and about high 40th in the day last saturday my five chicken was five months old how soon will i get eggs.or is it two cold at night for them to lay eggs.

HI!!

I live in Petersburg Alaska. We put a light in our coop from 6am-8am and again at 6pm-8pm just to give them the 14 hrs of daylight needed to lay. We dont give ours any heat unless it gets down below 10 degrees and they do just fine..they lay right thru it all. It also depends on what type of birds you have as to when they will start laying. My leghorns started at 16 weeks while my barred rock is now 26 weeks and yet to lay.
