I rescued Rosy the game hen from a busy street a little over a week ago. Monday, I got two new chickens to keep her company. As I'd been told, Rosy was aggressive and pecking with them at first. But has escaped her side of the pen nearly every night to roost with them.

So today she did something I don't understand. Maybe you wonderful people have some insight. She got out of her pen in the middle of the day this time so when I went to check on them, she was with the others, and they were all doing fine. The little white one (who was most afraid of Rosy) was right with her, happy and cheeping...until Rosy saw me. Then suddenly she started pecking them and making this weird noise. So I put her back in her pen and tried to make sure it was more securely closed. (she got out again for tonight and they were all on the roosts so I may give up and just let her be with them).... So, what was the sudden pecking and weird noise for? Do you think it was her saying "this is my human, stay away".... or more "Oh my God it's a human! Get to safety you two and I'll hold her off"?

If she can get out predators can get in. But since you say busy street, maybe your in the city where it isn't as big a deal...

I would leave them be. And see what happens. New introductions can be rough. Any clue what the age difference is? And the other breeds?

The sound may very well have been a predator call. You'll become very aware of their vocalizations and what they mean, the more time you spend. Chicken TV can be really fascinating... it's like a comical drama. :pop

The new chickens are 10 weeks old and Rosy is close to that it seems like. Rosy is a game hen, one is a Wyandotte and one is an Austrolorp
