I have a horribly sinking feeling it's a rooster. We purchased our chicks from a local hatchery (only other place we found around here with chicks was Tractor Supply Co...and most of theirs were straight runs). We purchased 2 EE (Hedwig and Beatrice), 1 Cuckoo Maran (Gloria), 1 Welsummer (Fiona) and 1 Barnevelder (Annie??). Since they are all pretty much different breeds (and my two EE's are 1 week apart in age), I can't really compare against each other. I'm finding it to be VERY difficult to locate distinctive Barnevelder chick photos to compare against. Here are some progression photos from when we got her (?) at approx 3 days old until now. Guestimated birthdate was 4/1/15.

Day the chick came home

One Week later

Tomorrow would be normally time for my weekly photos of the chicks, but this one's comb is starting to worry me.

Far right with the brown stripe across the eye

Thoughts on gender??

The comb is looking kind of large, since Annie/Aaron is only a little over two weeks old you can't tell for certain the gender, could you post more pictures in about four more weeks, we can be almost sure of the gender.

The comb was what started to worry me. There is little to no comb development on any of my other chicks, but they are all different breeds. Hope we don't have to rehome this one!

Its a bit hard to tell at that age but it does have a pretty big comb. What i would mostly look for as it gets a little bit older is the comb and wattle. If the comb and wattle is starting to look very red it is probably a rooster.
Good luck!

Here is an update on this chick. We are now about 6-7 weeks old (at least. Maybe a bit more. Not sure of hatch date). Does this even look like a Barnevelder at this point? That's what it was sold as...

It looks like you have an Annie! I agree that she doesn't look like a Barnevelder, she reminds me of a Welsummer.
