Hi, I want to use polyurathane on the outside of my coop to preserve the wood is this harmful to the chickens?

Yes you can stain your coop with this, let it completely air off before keeping birds inside, once it dries its completely harmless.

As long as it's completely dry when you put them in it they should not be affected. How large is your coop?

This might seem obvious but just make sure it's Exterior Poly, not Interior. I made that mistake only one time....
