I'm new to chickens . . . is this strange?

I've only observed 2 out of my 8 chicks doing this behavior. Always the same two. Is it normal that the others DON'T do this behavior?

Tigerjane, I'm going to guess that's your two boys playing. Either that or those two have decided they are the top of the pecking order already and they're trying to decide upon number one.

I got the mixed female assortment last month. It's funny to watch the little chocolate brown one (no idea of the breed yet) run up to the Jersey Giant or Austrolorp (? she's a tall black one at any rate) and try SO hard to be taller than her. The chocolate one is on her tippy-toes and the black one just straightens up, as if to say "What, short stuff?"
