Hi everyone I am new to the chicken world, I recently started my own flock (earlier this spring) and have started with what was supposed to be all hens except two that I ordered :). I have Two mature Isa Brown hens, and 10 Isa chicks a couple weeks old (also supposed to be hens), I have two Red Cross hens, a light brahma hen (named Lacy), a silver laced and goldlaced Wyandotte hen, an amberlink hen and what turned out to be an amberlink rooster we named Chucky, three Amerucana hens and two Amerucana roosters (these were my only two planned boys). And finally one very unplanned cornish rock that had gotten soaked in the drinking water at the farm store that my company rents inside of, he was chilled by the time we found him wet and the other chicks had started beating him up, so the manager told me he would give him to me if I wanted to try to save him. Again supposed to be a hen...lol of course he survived and now he is getting ready to go to get butchered or whatever you call it for chickens (for now he is named Kazoo because his crowing sounds like one of those Kazoo toys...lol) I am currently working on hatching several of the eggs. Aside from the chickens my husband and I own four dogs, all working dogs trained or being trained in different types of detection work (his two: Luna a Belgian Malinois, and Onyx a Dutch shepherd) (My two: Nora a Vizsla, and Samson an English Shepherd) and one cat (Nyla...a Calico). We both own and run our own business a dog grooming boarding and training company. We are hoping to start expanding our little 6 acre farm to include goats, sheep and maybe some others. We also border my parents 20 acres, so we are possibly going to join up and do a family run animal farm.

Welcome to BYC. Used to groom, show and breed dogs many years ago. Love them. I know Belgian Malinois but not familiar with Dutch shepherds.

They are basically the same dog, and do the same jobs. To the average person they would appear to be two different colors of the same breed, but their body structure is slightly different, the dutch shepherd typically has a dramatic tiger striped coat appearing almost brindle in some cases, and they are a little different in the head. Neither breed I would recommend as a pet or for the inexperienced dog owner. :) but both are wonderful working dogs and are a blast to watch doing their jobs.
