I'm new!

Hi! I'm so excited I found this site! I'm new at owning a duck (drake muscovy). I fell in love with him! I do have a couple questions, will he do ok living by himself? My girls and I hang work him in the back yard so he doesn't feel too alone. If he needs a friend can another male duck work? Would it need to be the same breed? Lastly and this may be s stupid question, but can male ducks lay eggs?

Glad you could join the flock! I'm afraid I'm not a duck person but I'm sure he would be do much happier with a friend. I do know Roos can be kept together if they have no females to fight over as for drakes I'm not sure. Please do drop by the duck section for all the help with your duck questions. As for males laying eggs no they can't. They Have a totally different reproductive systems to the females.

No, male ducks don"t lay eggs. He should be fine on his own. If you do get a companion for him get a female muscovey. I'm not sure if two males would get along. Different specie-maybe. They are beautiful birds.

If you have him alone, he may bond closely to you - which sounds good at first but, later on his needs may become aggravating. I think he would do much better with a friend. Please do follow the duck link Michael has given you. The duck folks will know if he should have a male or female friend.

Hi to all again! thank you for all your advise. I do have another question if thats ok. I decided I want a friend for my little guy is it ok to have a different breed with my Muscovy? male or female? If female and they mate, is that a bad thing?
