I was just going to post a question about the need to provide "chicken feed" during the warm season. I have 3 pullets and used to put about 2 cups of chicken feed/boss/scratch mix into their bowl each day during the winter (plus kitchen scraps & mealworm treats). They get to free range from sunrise to sunset, however, and now that the grass is green, the lawn is huge, and there are plenty of bugs, I wondered if I had to provide much supplemental food at all. All they seem to do is forage---with a few breaks for dust and sun bathing each day. They eat grass like it's going out of style. Thankfully I have an immense lush lawn for their buffet pleasure. Just another perk of having pet chickens....they eat the bugs.....I save on pet food!
