I'M NOT YOUR SWEETY!!!!!!!!!

I feel your pain. I have never looked my age. When I was 24 and pregnant with my daughter, a lady I worked with told me I looked 17

People can tell you all day to not take it personally, but it is very hurtful....they obviously don't understand how they are making you feel.

On the bright side....I'm now 33 and look 24. I am completely fine with that! You will look older, but probably never your age and when you are in your 30s it will be better!

Yes, eventually it's a good thing. I always looked young for my age too. It only really bothered me in high school because I looked like I should be in grade school when all the other girls looked ....uhh mature. Now, I'm in my 40's and I appreciate it.

I'm a police officer, and I've been called more names than you can imagine. If the worse thing I get called is "Sweetie" or "Honey," I'll be happy. I had one guy whistle and "Yo!" me. I said "If you're not hollering for the family dog, you can call me Officer." I've also had guys ask for my number! LOL I tell them it's the 3 digit number after my name (badge number). And my first name is Officer.

Oh yeah, been there too. When you're little and cute, people tend to treat you that way. Don't stress out over it. You can always call them sweety or hon back too.

Besides, when you're 35 and the store clerk askes for your ID when you buy beer or a bottle of wine, it sure makes you feel good.

Do you not realize that you have the upperhand ?!?

When I was the tender age of 21, I met my husband, he was 31 at the time. Moved in with him, and he had some one call the police on him because whoever this was thought my husband had a 12 yr. old staying with him (he is black and I am white).I had to show my ID to the female officer, who complimented me on how young I looked. Yes, I was very proud that I could pass so young - I also wore size 12 in children's size.

I recently met one elderly gentleman who showed me his ID, which showed his age was over 70 - he only looked in his mid/upper 40s, he was also proud of his younger looks.

On the other hand, my two youngest sisters were out somewhere and my youngest sister was mistaken for my next youngest sister's mama. The four of us sisters are stair-steps. I was born in 1965 and my youngest sister was born in 1969.

My poor daughter has the completely opposite problem! She is 14 and guys are thinking she is way older.

When she was 10 I had to argue that she got the kids price when we went to eat!

I looked older too! I had grown men hitting on me when I was 12!!!

I don't think the 'sweetie/hun thing is limited to petite people.
I don't like it either but I realize it may just be a regional thing.
I am 5'10" and people still hun me ...

Oh Lord, I feel ya. When I was 18, I looked like I was 12... I still look way younger then I am, always have. I aint tellin ya how old I am, but I walked into the saddle shop the other day and when I was checkin out the lady asked where my Ma was and if she was gonna help me pay... Ya kiddin me?! I've been grown for a while now, my Ma dont need to hold my hand anymore LOL.

Oh well.

What's the problem. If some total stranger or anyone else is giving you the condescension and/or patronizing act, tell them not to address you with those terms. You don't need to say please, and you don't need to tell them your name; just tell them to call you mam or sir.
Edit: Call them mam or sir also.
