Hmm, I'm thinking you should have tried the original product first instead of modifying it. It served a purpose for its design. Plus you would be able to understand how the actual device worked fairing good or poor. Then you would be able to modify or make adjustments to it. Anyway just a thought.

it is and that's what I'm using. Kept the incubator sitting in the styrofoam packing it came in, with a window cut out of the styrofoam only.

yes a small vent on the top but the more I open it, the humidity plummets, so it's kept about 1/3 open

Your eggs might not be getting enough air to develop properly. And as far as increasing humidity, you can place a small dish or plastic cap from a jar with water in it. But I would think having vents on opposite side can help stablize the humidity. I'm sorry your going through the bad side of incubating eggs. Some detective thoughts are required.
