I am out of chick starter.......I forgot dh had to work tonight and didn't get to the feed store today. I have enough feed for my younger chicks but don't have enough for the 6-7 weekers. Can I give them a bowl of scratch until I get to the feed store in the morning? Is this a bad idea? Suggestions appreciated. I thought I had another 50 lb bag of starter but can't seem to locate it [IMG] .

Scrambled eggs. Runny oatmeal. Scratch wont be good unless you have grit to give them, but in a pinch, they gotta eat, right?

Look in your fridge [IMG] Leftover spaghetti, some fruit, oatmeal, (just don't give them that chili. That could be bad.), stuff like that. They're young still so nothing too hard to digest.

at the expense of sounding stupid, is the oatmeal dry, wet or either? I know speckledhen said runny, is this the only way?

I ran ot of starter over the weekend.
I put some layer crumbles in the feeder and didnt give it another thought.
    Neither did they.
bought a new bag on the way home today.

Quote:I have layer pellets, not sure if they would be too big. I don't know if them having them for only a day would harm them....

I've given mine leftovers, oatmeal, scratch and bread on the rare occasion I run low or out of food.

I've thrown dry oatmeal in the blender to chop it up a little, but they like wet oatmeal too. Bread, grapes, apples, lettuce, pasta, peas, canned/frozen corn... shoot, they even eat cooked leftover ground up bear... how messed up is that?!? [IMG]
