I'm Probably Gonna Need My Hand Held Quail Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Found two more passed away under the heat plate this morning. Not sure if this is normal attrition for shipped eggs and/or quail in general. I know they are more fragile in the chick stage than chicken chicks.

And again, every one seems healthy and active. Until they aren’t.

How tightly are they packing themselves in under the heat plates? Could crushing/suffocation be a possibility?
I think that was the problem when i had them in the plastic tote with only the small heat plate.

Since moving them to the bigger pen with the two heat plates I don’t think it’s an issue any longer.

Not enough food could have been a possibility for weaker ones who couldn’t fight their way to the mason jar lids when I refilled them.

I pulled the lids out and put a regular chick feeder in. Hopefully none of the tinier ones decide to crawl into it and get trapped.

They're so cute. I'm envious because I don't have enough money or time to be able to get an incubator to hatch any babies. 🥰 :hugs

They are positively precious!!

Are they definitely spreading themselves out between both heat plates?
