hi, I have 6 quail all baby chicks that age between 6-7 days old and I'm running out of the crumb for them and, I am going to order online some but to get a high protein one it will take up to 2 days to get and I don't think the food is going to last for two days. what should I give them when the food runs out. some people said rice some people said cake, and I am not too sure!

First and foremost do NOT feed any bird or animal for that matter uncooked rice. I really am not sure what to say about the cake...

If it were my birds I would get a small bag of whatever chic starter I could find to feed until the appropriate or preferred feed comes in.

Quail need high protein. Game bird feed is around 28% protein. A turkey starter is usually 24%, and may be available. If you can’t get that, then you can use dry cat food (dry is much higher protein than wet), but crush it or wet it. This isn’t a long term solution, bc other feeds tend to be too high in salt. Other high protein is dry fish food flakes, or plain meat chopped up very small, or scrambled eggs.

when birds eat food (Other than feed crumble or pellets) , they need grit. Most stores carry chick grit in small bags - ok for adult quail. But for the chicks any pet store (or pet area of Wal-mart) should carry grit for parakeets, and you can use that. In fact, as a treat and distraction for my adult quail, I would give them cuttlefish bone (sold for parakeets) to supplement calcium.

good luck.
