Lots of folks get their feed tested. Two folks on BYC recommended Midwest Labs, so that's who I was going to use.

I've had UC Davis test forage and soil, but seeing as how they are funded largely by the state, I figured the folks blaming the government for tainting the feed wouldn't appreciate that.

I differ on that opinion. My view is that livestock feed is more researched and has higher quality control standards (at least in the US) than human food. The feed I buy for the chickens (cat food too) is labeled with a "guaranteed analysis" whereas human food is labeled with "nutrition facts". Each batch of chicken feed is tested - human food is just based on averages of the ingredients.

Not sure what you really want/would accept as evidence. A pic of labeling? My firsthand account of working in a USDA inspected plant? I think guaranteed analysis speaks volumes over nutrition fact? I'm not saying altering can't happen; however, I do not think it could happen at the level you may be suggesting.

I just assumed that the FDA performed more and to a higher level than the USDA.
 
And lets not forget the millions of commercial layers that had to be culled due to AI last summer.
Not just last summer - its out of the news, but there were still big culls going on into this winter. Big enough that Cal_maine made mention of it in their 2022 report as a profit driver for their company, since they didn't lose any of their 42 million +/- birds to AI (not counting the 11 million they have as preeders and hatchlings approaching point of lay), while several of their competitors lost millions of birds (and had smaller flocks to start with - I think their next biggest competitor has 26 million birds total, and the one after that, 24 million).

Just in the last two weeks, its 64,000 turkeys and over a quarter million commercial broilers...

Food - human and Pet - is HIGHLY regulated in the US. But its also Labyrinth-like in the details. Who regulates a particular food, and to what standard, has as much to do with different ingredients as it does with particular departments.

Pepperoni Pizza? Inspected three times by USDA. Slaughterhouse, Pepperoni Production factory, final pizza assembly.

Cheese Pizza? FDA. Once at the end.

Its so laughable we've been talking about fixing it for decades, but neither USDA nor FDA will cede turf, and its not a "vote getter" for Congress, so...

But yes, I can understand why you would assume the US was more competent. Sadly, we aren't.
