One word: gorgeous. Would love to have some ornamental ducks, but live next to the inlaws and they only just tolerate the chickens! (33 last count)

Have finally decided on my breeds, am selling off my hybrids and settling on brahmas and orpingtons. And my bantams, I love them. Especially Notty. He got his name from when I bought him, I had chosen a different rooster at an outdoor sale, and when the seller tried to box him up for me the little so-an-so escaped, ran all over the park, and flew 50 feet up into a tree and over the dual carraigeway. So he gaveme Notty as he felt sorry for me, I was very upset. So Notty as he's the rooster-I-got-but-NOT-the-one-I-wanted. Also the only bird I have actually named. One of my chicks my daughter named miu0miu but I can't remember which one, I think one of my brahma pullets.

I was on the backporch ( that's where the incubator is ) and I thought I heard chirping coming from the incubator so I open it and guess what I find? I find that everyone but one has a pip in it and they're all chirping their heads off! They are a day early! They'r e suppost to hatch tomorrow!!!

well so far i got 4 duck eggs and 1 quail egg (quail didnt lay today

)

im going to put 6 duck eggs and 7 quail eggs in the bator this time (if the quail lays now till saturday)

and 2 of the duck eggs have cracks in them like u can see them but cant feel thay are there exept a little tiny bit of shell missing will them 2 duck eggs be ok to incubate ??

Guess what? I just went out to check on my eggs in the incubator and one of them has already hatched! It's must have taken it about 2 or 3 hours to hatch because I checked one them about an hour ago! That was sure quick! It hatched from one my bantam eggs, it blue. I will get a picture of it here in a minute! I'm so happy!

Here is the Chick, as you can see she is blue has dark green feet and also has feathered feet, and has muffs!

For the eggs with shell missing: light a white candle, wait a few mins until a pool of wax gathers and gently pour it on to the egg over the missing shell. Rub over the cracks with your finger and candle to make sure you have all the cracks. I thought my egg was just dented but when I candled it the whole of one side was smashed. So, my egg was 50% covered with wax going in, and is now my brahma roo making mischeif out in the brooder (and he's the boss).

on the other side of the egg you can see the 'back' of the embryo developing, these were taken around day 7 or 8

I used a sharp kitchen vegetable knife to gently scrape off as much wax as I could from the outside of the gg on day 18. I would have done it earlier but the air cell was progressing just right and didn't want to overly ventilate the shell. It was the second one out.
