I'm sick to my stomach--PLEASE tell me this isn't a worm--PIC INCLUDED

definitely a roundworm, and you can worm all you want to, and they will keep coming back. Life cycle is not that long, so even if you treated 2 months ago, you can still have adult roundworms. Many species also migrate through the body- ie your piperazine (wazine) or pyrantel will not get the ones not in the GI tract. Ivermectin class drugs will.

As long as your little ones have access to bugs and dirt (which is how most worms are being transmitted to your birds) you will never have a clean flock. Chickens love to eat bugs and it is normal for them to do so. Periodic deworming will keep your chickens from being overrun with worms, but they will always be back....

Worms are gross for sure, but anyone who keeps animals not in a bubble, will have to deal with worms. Even if you do not see them in the poop- they ARE there in the bird. If you see worms in the poop and you didn't just deworm, you probably have a bad problem.

Kind of like living on a farm and having rats and mice around. Even if you don't see them, they are there. If you actually see 1 rat, you have 25 under your shed....

I lived in Ecuador for two years back in the late 70's.

Back then I got a tape worm... it kept me skinny but gave me some cramps and Atahualpa's Revenge.

The way we got rid of tape worms was to fast for 24 to 36 hours then down a quart bottle of Coca Cola. (For medicinal purposes) Within six hours of that treatment, I passed a HUGE tapeworm.

Started gaining a littel weight again after that.

I totally agree. WAY GRODY DUDE! I really don't know what I'd do if I had to pass a worm.

Eprinex IS ivermectin, just a brand name. It comes in differenent concentrations and formulations. Eprinex = ivomec. Heck- Heartguard brand dog heart worm preventative is Ivermectin too. People are given ivermectin for a variety of tropical illnesses as well. Great drug if used correctly. Milbemycin, Ivermectin, Selamectin, are all very similar- same class of drugs- similar spectrum of activity against worms, lice and mites.

Hi , Hope im not butting in where I don't belong ,Im new here, but have been doing alot of reading and studying up on the subject of chicken care, and as a preventative you could mix food grade DE in with the food and it can deworm or prevent the worms from taking hold and living in them , Is this true? I was planning on using it on the chicks that i have coming in feb. Does anybody have any thoughts or personal knowedge on the subject. It might really help her in the future if it works. Thanks . Stormy

I personally don't use DE, and have never wormed my flock in 10+ years and they are fine. All birds on soil will run a natural paracite load, and any vet can do a fecal float test to determine the types if they have any so you can treat accodingly.

by now you know it's a worm---and you need to rid your flock of them. But to REALLY gross you out---wait till you see a mom bring them in to the office in a zip lock. (YES I am a nurse in rural Virginia:plbb)
