I've got 50 ducks waiting for me at the post office RIGHT NOW! My parents are coming over to watch my son while I pick them up and set them up here. 40 white layers and 10 Cayugas :D Pictures to come!

I'm just so excited! I had to share it with the people that would understand most :p

They're 300 hybrid white layers from Metzer :) they are so cute! Sadly we had 3 that passed away during shipping and I've got one who's failing to thrive :( moving her with a friend to another brooder.

The rest are doing great! They are chirping like crazy and very excited about their water. We've got two brooders right now but I'll be setting up a third shortly.

Thank you! Yup, he just hangs out with them. My other one I'll have to train to leave the ducks be.

I moved the sad looking duck to another brooder with another duck that was in a similar state. Sadly they have both passed. I feel like 5 ducks in an order of 52 is hgh, but i guess these things happen....? They were all layers.

So they're all quiet now*, just huddled under the heat lamp. This means they're warm and comfy, right? Also, is it normal for them to nip each other at first? They've stopped....just wondering.

This is my first flock! Actually, this is the first time I've touched a duck o_o

LOVE THEM ALREADY!

*Eta: when i say "quiet"...the ducklings aren't silent, they are just very quietly peeping versus when they first arrived and were so loud i heard them in my other room, despite closed doors lol

Wow, that is alot of ducks to start out with! lol! They are adorable though, and I just love Cayugas! I have two myself. :)

Sorry about the ones you lost, but I guess that is a risk when they are shipped through the mail. :/

I know! It's overwhelming but enjoyable. Cayugas are my absolute favorite. We're starting a duck egg business, hence the amount of birds. Eventually we want a flock of 300 (if the demand for eggs is there).

Unfortunately I've come down with something (i think strep) which is reaaaally inconvenient timing! Half their bedding is wet (near the waterer) and i've added more chips on top, but it needs to be changed. Do you think it'll be ok until my husband gets home to do it for me tonight? Or should i suck it up and clean it this morning? I'm feverish and not feeling up to any physical tasks...i did make sure they had fresh, clean water as well.
