Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

You have to understand that so much has gotten politicized in ugly ways, everyone disagreeing with one another about things that used to be considered as matters of fact. It’s causing a lot of mental stress, which triggers excess production of cortisol, which damages physical health. It really wears people down, whatever their political viewpoints. It damages people’s ability to have civil relations with one another.

And so it’s good to be able to have neutral ground, where the arguments are about coop square footage and protein levels in feed.

Agreed. Thank you!

Tax: this chicken is not my biggest fan - she seems to be convinced I'm trying to make her into chicken nuggets if I reach out to her, but she comes right up to me and checks me out. Maybe she's just suspicious.

But self-censorship is really insidious and inconsistent with both freedom and bravery.

It’s not self-censorship to pick your battles, or to be aware of what is appropriate when and where. BYC isn’t the place for my strident opinions. Believe me, I exercise my freedom and bravery elsewhere.

- to add: those who live elsewhere probably don’t get how our society has become a collection of echo chambers. People huddle with those who believe the same things, and they get their news from all the same sources, and never willingly interact with those who feel differently. So how will anything ever change?

We need to find and appreciate our commonality, not be obedient to urgings for divisiveness. I’m 70 years old, and my country is splintering before my very eyes, and I can’t imagine what my grandchildren will have to deal with.

You are right, but each coin has 2 sides.

Someone wrote me a private mail to explain how grim things became in the US. It made me realise that freedom of speech is no longer possible in the US . Bravery is tricky and I understand now this platform is not the place for it.

The people in England, the Netherlands and many more countries still can speak out and live their lifes freely. The person in the private mail made it clear why people who live in the US don’t want to discuss anything in life on this forum with a touch of politics.

So from now on I accept it right away if someone doesn’t want to discuss anything but chickens. Hope they let us (not US or from any other restricted country) speak out as we please.

that's sad, but its fallout lands on those of us who live elsewhere too.
Also true. So we keep on using our freedom of speech 🎤 to send messages in space and hope they land on a soft pillow somewhere unknown.

I'm doing just fine here. Thank you.

People can have a false sense of "free" if their speech is favored by the authority.

I am sorry, but your post is incredibly simplistic to say the least.

I do apologize for not holding back.
