My ducks are kicking my chickens' fluffy butts when it comes to laying. My ducks have a 98% laying average (# eggs I collect per day divided by the # of ducks). The chickens are at 53%. Both groups are young birds in their prime laying years.
I should mention that my chickens received supplemental lighting all winter. The ducks - nada. I love having both types of birds, but these ducks are seriously impressive. It's really unfortunate that I am allergic to duck eggs
, but at least fertility is high now and I can hatch them and sell hatching eggs.
