I'm so old I Remember when:

$4,800/year base pay - worked every bit of overtime possible - the Princess was a 'stay at home' mom - rent was $65/monthly - heat and electricity included.
That's about what I was making in the 70s but rent was $50 a month covering utilities because it was working for the G&F and no overtime pay, it was salary and on call 24/7.

Made a $1.75 to start as a tool and die maker in 1965 and worked lots of overtime. One week 43 hours of OT.

I remember when a 58 hour work week was a job benefit advertised in the Detroit Free Press.
