I'm old enough to remember when nobody locked their doors. In the summer you slept with the windows open, and the only reason the screen doors were latched was to keep the critters out.

I'm so old, I spent my 2nd grade in a one-roomed schoolhouse because there was no bussing into town for public schools.

I DID have to walk one mile to school in the snow. Mom would come to get me after school.

We went to church in an old one room school house. It was tiny but I loved it. It had no running water, thus the earlier outhouse reference. I did NOT love the outhouse

Listening to the grown ups talking about the stamps they had to have to buy meat, sugar, tires, etc during WWII.

Stories about people questioning how my grandfather (vision issues and couldn't serve, was air raid warden) had enough ration cards to host bbq/dinner party.
It was horse meat, so I've been told
