I'm so old I Remember when:

I remember playing in the cloud of smoke that hung around daddy's ashtray.
I was always Daddy's helper (ran and got tools, held things in placed and learned how to repair a ton of things). So I lived breathing second hand smoke as a kid. And I have smoked over 50 years, myself. To the best of my knowledge I don't have the big C.

I had a friend who smoked like a chimney and drank heavily. She wanted to make sure that everyone knew she didn't die from lung cancer. She did die from colon cancer which has been attributed to heavy smoking and heavy drinking.

I am sorry to hear about your friend. :hugs
I am not a heavy drinker and have cut back on how much I smoke, I don't know if any of that helps, but at 66 I really am not very concerned.

Remember some of the AM stations at night would boost their signal. Ours was "Charlie Douglas -- Road Gang" on 870 WWL. He catered to over the road truckers and gave traffic warnings, weather reports for the whole country. He played the old timey Country Music.
Remember this one.

I remember when this was legal too! We had a Ford Econoline stub nosed truck and five of us girls quickly outgrew what room there was inside so dad put benches in the back for whoever wanted to ride in the bed of the truck. I didn't often as I had (still have) very long hair and it would be in rats by the time we got where we were going.

I quit heavy drinking a very long time ago. Stopping smoking wasn't bad and was well over 30 years ago. Stopping chewing was not fun. Like @sourland if I am ever diagnosed with a terminal illness, I will go back to chewing.

My youngest uncle also died from colon cancer. He was also a heavy drinker and smoker.

I never took the car driven test, just the written test.
A friend of my mom’s family back in 1930 didn’t need to take any tests at all.

My grandpa didn’t have to go to driving school, he just took a driving test with the Chief of Police!

I had to go to driving school and take both a written and a driving test.

My sister doesn’t have to go to driving school but she had to take a written test before getting her permit. I can’t remember if she has to take any test to get her license.

My story is complicated, lol.
