I'm so old I Remember when:

Did for me when I relocated. First couple of years were rough and then nothing.
I've been here in MO for 14 years and my allergies are probably getting worse, not better.

Sounds like a Dad joke.
I think I first saw it in an issue of my brother's Boys' Life magazine. We thought it was hilarious.

You're right, many transplants adjust both to the flora and the extreme high temperatures. I'm just not one of them, for whatever reason. I do think getting older has something to do with it.

Last summer was one of the most brutal. I'm already dreading its return. Temps are going to start climbing in just two months. Makes my heart beat fast just thinking about it and not in a good way.

If I didn't have chickens I'd find a way to flee to someplace cooler for a few months. I can't afford a second residence but I could do car camping, house sitting, ranch help, Amtrak pass, something, anything.

The summers have just become too much for me. 2025 is going to be tough.

:hugs So sorry. AZ and NM were perfect for me, I had no allergies there. None until I moved here. Moss and mold, ugh! And now, for the first time ever, I am allergic to my cats! :hit Maybe they have mold spores on their coats, idk. :barnie

I can appreciate your situation and circumstances. We moved 12 years ago from a cold four season climate where I was born to a hot humid climate. Never had allergies "back home" ever until we relocated. We were told by people to eat 1 tablespoon of local raw honey for one year and that would help us acclimate to the environment and the allergens. I couldn't do it because frankly, I don't like honey (strange, I know). I know others that have tried that to no avail. I think we have natural immunity to allergens in the place we are born and when the change to another climate is so drastic our bodies have a hard time adjusting. Although my skin and blood have acclimated to this climate (both are thinner) I will never feel acclimated to the extreme hot dry summers. I too would like to have a place up north to bail to when it's unbearable but who can afford two homes? The older I get, the more difficult it is. I am empathizing with you.

I didn't have any allergies growing up and asthma attacks were extremely rare. We had all kinds of pets: dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, gerbils, rats, mice, snakes, fish, parakeets, and more. We're big animal lovers in my family.

Now I'm allergic to so much including cats and any kind of rodent (I loved having pet rats). Isn't that weird? I consider myself lucky to still be okay with dogs, horses, and birds!

I'll be relocating in a few years. It's tough to choose a new place to live. I'd love to be back on a coast at least for a little while. I think I need it to heal from all these years in the desert! It's really done a number on my lungs and my eyes.

Anyone still doing this?
My mom still dries her clothes on the line. When we were little, us girls made my mom put our unmentionables in the middle of the clothes line, between other clothes, because we had all boy neighbors and we were embarassed to have them on the line🤣

Come to the middle East Coast - it's the farthest thing from a desert. It's hot and humid in the summer, with fairly mild winters and one good snowfall per year. Spring and summer are lovely. And usually lots of trees. I like it and can't imagine living anywhere else!
