I'm so old I Remember when:

Those lines were looooooooong!
During the gas shortage we had a 1972 International 1210 crew cab pickup. Its fuel filler was on the passenger side of the truck. Hubby would get into the fuel line. When we were next to get fuel I would get out, stand behind the pickup. I would hold the line up while he turned that long pickup around so he could have the passenger side next to the pump. I always would stand there holding a baseball bat and looking tough. Looking back I must have been a little crazy.

I recall a lot of talk about how deadly they were because of their fuel tank location but I don't remember ever hearing of any one losing their life.
Officially there were 27 deaths due to Pinto accident caused fires. Not very many for 3,000,000 Ford Pintos. There were many more deaths in other types of Pinto accidents.

Those lines were looooooooong!
Yes they were. I was working at a service station at the time. At 6 o'clock every evening I had to put a sign between two vehicles, marking the last customer to be sold gas for the day. Learned a lot of new swear words for sure.
