Before they started using them as hula hoops. Hula hoops were toys, now they are exercise equipment.

I had a "shoop-shoop hula hoop" when I was about 10. I could only do it counter clock-wise. I tried to do it the other way, and Could. Not. Do. It.

There was a young lady at work that could "hula-hoop" a 4 (or was it 6??) foot diameter aluminum ring. We had a display we were making, and this was a reject. Sam saw it and said it looked like a hula hoop.

First, we were surprised she knew what a hula hoop was. Then she amazed us by doing it. Started around her waist, up to her neck, and back down.

My dad had that in his house.

My in-laws just had a buzzer they'd wired up to the kids' playroom.

What is it?

It's called a gyro-wheel. And this one is a gyroscope....

Both are still available and both are still fascinating to the under 10 crowd.

I guess cell phones made them unnecessary.

The Hula Hoops made me think of 'The Twist' and Chubby Checkers.

Not only is he alive, but he snubbed his induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because "We have a gig."
