I went outside to investigate the chicken noise comming from the front yard this morning to find one of my RIR inside the porch just sitting there looking at me. I went and picked her up and brought her over by the coop and found the yard covered in feathers and a dead RIR. Took a little walk to find one of my big roos half dead in the side yard. Went up back to find another RIR dead by the garden. 2 roos and a hen missing. Although I did find a pile of what looked like Barred Rock feathers

My husband went and fed the horses shortly after and said he saw 3 huge foxes run through the pasture and up into the woods right next to the horse paddock. Im so sad. My next walk will be at dusk...carrying Fancy Pants Rooster carcas as bait and my 30/30. These #*&^@%#$&!*&^ foxes are going down!

1 Fox down.....2 to go

Then saw the "big one" chase my guineas this morning through the front yard.....will be hunting more in the A.M.

Update on the surviving RIR....My beakless wonder is now a very happy girl with 8 new Barred Rock Hens and a Cochin Roo in her coop. I couldn't stand watching her mope around all alone anymore

so sorry, I have been through the same thing. Sadly, we never caught the fox, but have not seen it all year and we are hoping it got nailed by a car or something.

Thanks everyone....I put the hen that lived in with the bantams. She looks freakishly huge in there! The bantam coop is built with everything sized for bantams so its kinda weird looking at her in there. But I didnt want her by herself in the big coop. Not sure if it bothered her at all but it made me sad to look at her in there alone. She actually lost a bunch of tail feathers but otherwise looks OK. Keeping an eye on her.

How terrible .We are so sorry for you. Last night as I sat at my computer beside a closed window I heard an owl calling from across our driveway .We are totally surrounded by woods. That owl was so loud he could have been sitting beside me in my livingroom. I was so relieved to know my 8 week old
girls were safe and sound inside their secure coop! Although we have never seen foxes I'm certain there are some.
