Hello,

I have four leghorn chickens that I raised from chicks that are a year and a half old. Around November of last year one started lossing it's butt feathers and soon after the others did too. One has lost all her feathers from butt to Neck only having feathers on her back, wings and tail. The other two aren't doing much better but the fourth seems to have only lost her butt feathers. I changed their water to reverse osmosis four months ago. I have been doing full coop clean outs with a power washer and bleach every two or three weeks and then laying down diatomaceous earth and lime in the coop/run. I also put seven mite powder on their feathers and exposed areas every time I clean the coop. Their butts are turning a rash colored red and one of the chickens combs is blue/black at the tip. I have tryed putting vasiline on their combs and butts to no avail. I don't see any signs of mites on them. They all look healthy but dirty and stinky (a surpose that's normal) lol. They all seem to be laying every day. I have had 6 brown chickens in with them for the last two or three months and they seem fine. It's been eight months and only getting worse.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rachel

Molting. Some of mine lay through it, some stop. Leghorns might be a breed that would still lay. My Leghorns have not molted yet and they are about a year or a little older.

Thanks,

I didn't think molting takes this long. If it is, will they loss all their feathers before they start growing them back?
