i'm thinking about getting a quail, do they fly away?

dumb question but hey, i don't even have one yet! are they like, BIRD BIRD, or just like chickens?
 
It's not a dumb question. Yes, they fly! I have 2 A&Ms that are 15 days old, and one of them can fly when we clean out the brooder.
In the wild, Bobwhites do fly, but only when startled. Here is a link you should review. If you were to let your quail (when you get them) browse through your backyard, one loud noise, and they're gone.
 
I keep a wing clipped at all times after hopping fences for half a block and still losing one to the woods. I want them to stay home.

Pinioning birds would be permanent, but wing clipping isn't. Their reduced flightness after wing clipping would only last until the feathers are replaced (like during the molting).
