i'm thinking about getting a quail, do they fly away?

It's not a dumb question. Yes, they fly! I have 2 A&Ms that are 15 days old, and one of them can fly when we clean out the brooder.
In the wild, Bobwhites do fly, but only when startled. Here is a link you should review. If you were to let your quail (when you get them) browse through your backyard, one loud noise, and they're gone.

yeah i suppose i would clip their wings... but would it be a permanent solution?
Pinioning birds would be permanent, but wing clipping isn't. Their reduced flightness after wing clipping would only last until the feathers are replaced (like during the molting).
