i've been searching around on google for any basic construction/building advice but i haven't been very successful. i have found plans for coops and thats fine, but i'm not sure how to build them exactly. does anyone know of any sites they could direct me to? i only have extremely basic construction knowledge, as my father used to build things but i never helped. i know how to hammer in a nail of course, and use a screwdriver, but i haven't the slightest idea about actually building something other than laying down the plans and getting the correct materials. i mean, sure i could probably hammer or screw everything together, but will it hold? will it be a secure coop for my chickens? please help! thanks!

Try posting an ad on your local CL to barter or trade something you have for someone to teach you basic woodworking skills. That way, you'll get "hands-on" experience which, if you're a visual learner like me, will make it much easier to understand the process in building something.

You can also try your local high school or vocational college to see if the woodshop teachers know of any students who might help you out to test their skills. Good luck!

I am handy, but not a builder. I bought these plans: chickendiyguides.com - and it was well worth the money. They are step by step instructions for people that are not carpenters. I had the coop built in one weekend (that is not counting the run).

Nobody had experiance the 1st time they built something. Goggle howto frame a wall you will find lots of text pics & vids on how 2 for every phase of carpentry. nothin to it but to do it! Good luck have fun.

thanks to everyone for responding! i will check out that site and google how to frame a wall. i guess all those years of "building" ikea furniture is about to come in handy!
