I'm thinking of raising some chickens to eat. Any pointers?

I've always wanted to try to raise some meat chickens. My local feed store sells Cornish Rock crosses for 2$, and I'd like to try to raise some, but I have no idea when to start.
Here are my main questions:
  1. What to feed them
  2. Any special care, housing, etc.
  3. And if I didn't eat one, how long would it live?

1. There is special meat birds feed
2. For housing they need just about the same as layers
3. Depends on the breed. If you get a broiler, it won't live very long because they get to fat and break their legs. A red ranger might live longer, though

Also, they can only drink water the day before they get butchered, no food!

Thank you!

They can't eat food os there's no poop when you're gutting them right?

As for the last question, meat birds have small hearts and a large body. They often die soon into adulthood. However, with proper food rationing, they can leave fairly long for a bird of their breed.
