HI,

Does any one know why one of my buff orpingtons this morning has a blueish purple skin color? head and feet skin is kind of blue and is breathing hard and not foraging with the others. she is drinking but not eating. this bird was fine yesterday. no bugs on it and in good phyical shape.

thanks,

Dan Smith

Poor circulation is often the cause of this. Usually from a weak heart.

Often this does not end well unfortunately.. :(

Agreed. Heart attack, clot in lung, or something of the sort. I'm sorry.

I forgot to mention this chicken is only 12 weeks old. if that matters.

I had a Minorca hen get like this overnight. I thought maybe sepsis from being eggbound. No egg after a soak, but she died less than 8 hrs later. I was told too that bluing like that all over usually means what ever is wrong is too far gone.

I guess I need to know if this is a contagious condition or a freak circumstance.
