I'm using chickens to cope with life!

Thanks for your replies everyone!

I had some AWESOME chicken therapy this morning - my daughter and I went to my neighbor's house to help her candle her first broody hen's eggs that are 7 days into incubation. We saw movement in all four eggs! Then when we came home to check for an egg from our hen Paprika (we have only 2 hens right now) - discovered that she seems to be incubating it! She was on the nest yesterday - we thought she was laying so we left her alone - then she was still on it this morning and the egg was nice and warm! I have an egg from 2 days ago that I can give her if she really is broody - it's been at room temperature.

How cool!

Ohh, I was so good today, I deserve a peck, er, pat on the back. I took DD to the feed store to buy another plastic feeder for the 13 chicks due to arrive this week (since my adolescent guineas haven't figured out how to eat out of anything but a chick feeder). We walked in the door, walked down the right-side aisle and heard . . . peeping!

Two big aluminum troughs full of squirming, peeping, fuzzy, sleeping, cheeps. And I spotted some BR and Australorps - on my "list" of wants.

But we were good! No chicks came home today.

I guess the fact that DH is building an incubator and eggs will be headed my way this week helped me to steel myself.
