I have some vet wrap here already...i think i'm going to give it a try!

I have read too much protein causes it but honestly that doesn't make sense. Since it tends to appear a lot in bird fed bread by the public I think it is too many easily digestible carbohydrates. Park birds aren't being fed protein, they are overloading their systems with sugars and starches.

I would increase greens and reduce things like corn

looks to me like those are blood feathers. new feathers are coming in and they are just a bit heavy. i don't think you have angle wing. i have call ducks and have one with angle wing it sticks way out from his body and i think it is caused by inbreeding. jmho.

If you fed them all the same thing and some are not exhibiting the feather problems, then I can't see how it could be the feed, or anything you did wrong. I hope they'll be okay.

Good luck.

My DS is 14 and a serious Jimi fan! Don't ask me how it happened, I have no idea! He plays some of his songs on his guitar. He also owns books, posters, DVDs, Cd's, hats t-shirts, coats! Oh my the list goes on and on. He knows tons of Jimi trivia.

I opened this thread just for him. When I showed him the picture he loved it and said it looks just like him. We are both home sick today and you made our day!

I wish you luck with Jimi!

Thanks everyone!

Wifezilla, i am going to start to increase their greens asap. thanks!

It is hard to tell from the pics how the wings really look but in the case of my two ducks, the "lower" wing was growing straight out, perpendicular to its body. I wanted to mention that I too had read about the too much protein theory but I was feeding mine a 18% protein and all two dozen ducks were getting the same feed and only two of them started to develop the angel wing. That was a year ago. Since then, I've been hatching and raising and selling ducks and I now feed them a 28% protein (gamebird) feed and have never had another case of angel wing. This week I've started letting them all out to free range and explore the farm and hopefully find their way to the big pond and basically to just be free because they've eaten every scrap of grass that used to be in their large fenced yard and I know ducks need the bugs, ticks, slugs and meat protein sources they find in nature, as well as the greens - that's why I actually upped the protein level instead of lowering it when angel wing first appeared.

Exactly Ruth. If you look at the typical diet of a wild duck during it's natural development, it eats A LOT of invertebrates...minnows, insect larve, slugs, water bugs, fairy shrimp, etc. These are primarily fat and protein. Even some of the weeds they eat are high protein...like duckweed.

The only time ducks have access to large amounts of grains is fall during migration when they lay over in farmer's fields. By then they are all grown. Angel wing hits when they are young and growing rapidly.
