We have a 10 week old australorp with an sour crop. We have taken the feed from her and of course separated her the flock. We were able to massage her crop and made her vomit yesterday and it seemed to be working but she seems like she still has a blockage. I have read about feeding them scrambled egg with a little olive oil, but are there any other options. Please help.

Go to the drug store and get some stool softener capsules. Colace is one brand name. It contains Docusate Sodium, which is the ingredient in all crop bound capsules sold by poultry supply outfits. Withhold feed for 24 hours and provide vitamin-electrolyte-probiotic powder treated water. Keep any shavings or small particles that may be eaten out of the environment where you house the bird. The day you withhold feed, give two Colace capsules and make the bird drink after swallowing them. Check the crop the next morning to see if it has emptied. After a day without feed, you can give some moistened feed or some bread soaked in buttermilk. Give a few small portions throughout the day, then check the crop the next morning.

If that doesn't remedy the problem, there could be problems with the gizzard or intestinal tract. Worms, protozoa, bacterial infections in the intestines can all cause enteritis, which can cause the crop not to empty efficiently.

Your info is very helpful, I didn't know I can get some stool softener for crop bound chickens. I ordered the med on line and can pay quite a bit for them to express shipping it to me when I can go to the store and pick this up. Would you please clarify the Colace stool softener you suggested for crop bound is in the 100 mg or th 250 mg gel caps? Thanks!

Welcome to BYC.Some people have used Monistat 7 cream and suppositories orally for sour crop. Here are some good links to read about crop problems:
