Hi again,

Sorry to bother you all but I had a question about time-lines and impacted crops. I have an Auracauna hen (about 14 weeks old) who might be developing an impacted crop. She looks different from her flockmates, much thicker around the neck and when I caught her she seemed to have a large (3-4inch diameter), asymmetric lump, on her chest. It was harder at the top than the bottom. I tried giving her some olive oil and massaging the lump a little but I didn't want to do anything to drastic yet. I first noticed the thicker looking neck this morning, so it hasn't been all that long.

So my question is how do you all decide what is serious enough to warrant immediate action, drastic action, or just wait and see?

She seems to be acting fine still, so I don't want to overtreat but I don't want to wait until it is too late either.

Any advice?

Did she free range today? She may have just eaten more than usual. Check her first thing tomorrow morning. If the crop hasn't gone down, then it's time for action.
